You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I think you are missing the cultural context; in the US this could be interpreted as reinforcing stigma, but in Pakistan this defies the prevailing sexist culture.
“In many cultures, a girl child is seen as a burden. Someone who will deplete precious family resources, so should be packed off for marriage as soon as possible. Inspired by this tragic view, Pakistani artist Nausheen Saeed created a series of sculptures depicting women as luggage.
To create these pieces, Saeed used fabric with traditional motifs, like paisley, wrapped around a fiberglass body. The luggage straps and handles reinforce the notion of women being enslaved, and helpless, dependent upon others to be moved. The work in these images were recently shown at the 2013 Scope Art Fair in New York City.” —madeinslant
I’ll be the first to admit that I can’t evaluate whether or not “in Pakistan this defies the prevailing sexist culture.” For me, it’s too passive.
