In Missouri have a sort of poor man’s Disney World called Silver Dollar City. Everything is themed like an old mining town. They have a ride where you sit in a log and go down a chute of water. They have funnel cakes and rock candy. And of course they have tintype photography. They dress you up in period clothes and transfer your image onto a sturdy piece of steel.

My mom is the one in the floppy hat. My brother is the one with the bitchin’ fringe. My dad has the mutton chops. And that confused little baby in the racoon hat… THAT’S ME!

SILVER DOLLAR CITY IS THE GREATEST!

OMG. The Fire in the Hole ride? BEST.

And tons of crafters and artisans and mountain hillbilly type folks OMG BEST.

Branson is the best.

The Simpsons called it Las Vegas if Ned Flanders ran it and it is sooooo true.

And so many go-kart places and arcades.

NEUTRALANGEL: 1) IS THIS ALL TRUE??? 2) HAVE YOU EVER BEEN THERE???

A POOR MAN’S DISNEY WORLD???? MORE LIKE TOTALLY BETTER THAN DISNEY WORLD BECAUSE IT IS CLOSER TO MY HOUSE!!!!!!!

I went to Silver Dollar City so many times as a kid. There was a log ride through an abandoned and flooded prison mine. At one point it stopped and you heard,”oh no it’s a rock slide; look out below!” Rocks would fall (and were caught by a net). My sister and I would say that to each other all the time. I have a bunch of pewter animal figurines I bought there. I loved that place.

My family went to Silver Dollar City one time when I was very young, and I remember it as some sort of magical place.  I have the faintest memory of the rock slide, and there was a store that made wax candles that looked like realistic ice cream sundaes.

I think on that trip we also went on a cave tour and I learned about stalactites and stalagmites.
