“The museum was designed to be open to everyone, without regard to their financial circumstances — a public library of art and culture to enrich the lives of the citizenry. But instead, the museum has been converted into an elite tourist attraction to be enjoyed only by those who can afford to pay expensive and illegal admission fees.”

-

Patricia Nicholson, a Met member who is suing the museum for consumer fraud.

This is interesting because I feel like when I was there back in August I saw in more than one area that the $25 fee was just suggested, the cashier told me it was just suggested, and then asked me “are you sure?” as if I was crazy for wanting to pay the full fee. It just seems like a stretch? I think a lot of people would like to pay for the amazing experience of being in the Met and then if you don’t see it or are too dumb to ask then you deserve to pay because we need to educate more people so this isn’t an issue.*

*and this is just how I feel about all people who don’t read the signs and/or fine print.
